After sharing about myself and what I learned about them, we jumped into our activity for the day. I wanted to make sure the students knew about Fixed Mindset vs. Growth Mindset and start getting used to using Google Slides as a tool for creating and sharing. I had come across the digital pattern blocks on Control Alt Achieve and thought it might be a great way to start looking at ways to use digital resources in similar ways that we had used physical resources. I created a student version of the slideshow below to include just the Choice Board pages, so they could access it in Google Classroom and have their own copy to work from and submit as an assignment.
Something that I am working on trying to do is keep all resources that students need to use for the day in one place. As I am working with 3rd-5th graders who are learning how to access things in Google Classroom still, I wanted to keep it as simple as possible. I am going to try keeping all links and resources in one Google presentation that I teach from and then give them a modified version with just the slides they need to complete work. I am hoping that this will simplify things so that it isn't too overwhelming and easy to understand what their assigned task is for the day. I am also trying to put short videos or audio clips on each slide so that I can make sure all students understand regardless of language or reading abilities. Yes, it does take more time to add audio or video, but I feel the impact it can have outweighs the time aspect. My students deserve my very best each day and that is what pushes me to do more and better for them!
