As I am not an expert on the topic, I had to do some research. Someone had shared this post and I thought that it provided a perfect visual representation of much of the information I found in my research. I had the opportunity to come into the teacher's classroom and work with some of the student leaders in her advisory club to create their own (majority of the students being Hispanic). It was so interesting to hear their stories of what they would include, their physical ofrendas at home, and see their designs.
TL;DR - Design Tips
- Start designing from the back to the front. The order can always be changed, but it just makes it easier if you don't have to reorder.
- When searching for images, make sure that all images have the correct usage rights. If you use the Google image search from within Google Slides, it will automatically provide images that are copyright friendly.
- When doing keyword searches, add "png" or "transparent" to your search to narrow your search to images with transparent backgrounds. remove.bg can also be used to remove image backgrounds.
- Add "gif" to your keyword search for animated images. (You cannot tell in the image above, but my slide actually has gif images for the candles so the flames look like they are flickering.)
